Remembering a Legend: 21 Years Since Terry Bonchaka’s Passing

Today, October 30, 2024, marks 21 years since the tragic loss of legendary Ghanaian Hiplife and Dancehall artist, Terry Bonchaka.

Born Terrence Nii Okan Mensah Adjetey, the iconic musician lost his life in a car accident on the Legon-Okpoglo road in 2003 after performing at the Akwafo Hall Week celebration.

Bonchaka, who earned the title of 2001 Hiplife Champion, was just 21 years old at the time of his passing and was celebrated for his dynamic stage presence and hit songs like “Ghana Ladies (Gbeebi Akle),” “African Tsoo,” “Zoozey,” and “Puulele.”

In a heartfelt Facebook tribute, his former manager and close companion, Reagan Mends, now a journalist at Citi FM/Channel One TV, expressed disbelief at the passage of time and committed to preserving Bonchaka’s legacy.

Terry Bonchaka also mentored renowned artists such as King Ayisoba, Sherifa Gunu, and Shatta Wale. He was the grandson of the late Speaker of Parliament, Peter Ala Adjetey.

Let’s take a look back at some of his memorable performances.
