Antwi Abdul Hakeem Confirmed as MCE for Birim North

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, assembly members in Birim North agreed together to support President John Mahama’s nominee, Abdul Hakeem Antwi, as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim North Municipal in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The event took place at the Municipal Assembly Hall in New Abirem, Eastern Region.

All the 37 Assembly Members who were supposed to vote were present. They voted in secret, and every single vote was in favor of Mr. Antwi. The election was done in a peaceful and fair way, supervised by the Municipal Electoral Officer.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, spoke at the event. She asked everyone to support Mr. Antwi and work together.

The Minister said peace and teamwork are important to help Birim North grow and succeed. She encouraged everyone to support the new MCE so he can bring development to the area.

In his speech, Mr. Antwi thanked the president for trusting him. He promised to help grow the area, keep it peaceful, and make it safe for everyone.

Mr. Antwi has served in many roles before this. He was an assembly member in Old Abirem for two terms and worked as a deputy secretary for the NDC in the constituency.

The event was attended by the Regional Minister, traditional leaders, party officials, and many others from the community.
