The Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, have been confirmed dead.

Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, announced that the two were among four individuals who lost their lives in a helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

The ministers were en route to Obuasi for an official engagement when the incident occurred. According to reports, the helicopter was carrying three crew members and five passengers, all believed to be high-ranking government officials.

The accident happened on August 6, 2025. Eyewitnesses described a devastating scene, with the aircraft bursting into flames upon impact.

The crashed helicopter has been identified as a Z9 model belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces. In a statement released on Tuesday, the military confirmed the aircraft went missing earlier that morning.

“A GAF helicopter, Z9, which departed from Accra at 09:12 hours and was en route to Obuasi, is currently off radar. Efforts are underway to re-establish contact. Onboard were three crew members and five passengers. Further updates will follow,” the statement said.
