Papavi, the leader of Western Togoland, Is Dead.
Charles Komi Kudzordzi, the leader of the separatist group Homeland Study Group Foundation, has died, according to reports.
Papavi, as the leader was called, died on Saturday, October 16 in the Keta Government Hospital, according to multiple sources gathered by Sarknation.com
The 88-year-old had been leading an insurrection in Ghana, calling for the secession of the former Western Togoland, which includes the modern-day Oti and Volta regions, as well as sections of the North-East Region.
The octogenarian was on trial for treason but lately called the Attorney General’s bluff.
After several months in hiding, he was apprehended again in July.
‘President’ Papavi and eight others were detained in May 2019 after claiming that the time had come to announce their independence from Ghana, as agreed with the government of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
They were taken to Accra to face treason and other charges.
The charges against him were later withdrawn by the state.
However, they were re-arrested on Friday, September 25, 2020, following an insurrection that saw roadblocks to the Volta Region and attacks on government facilities.
