Shatta Wale, Medikal & Three Others granted Ghc100k bail each To Reappear In Court In November
A self-recognizance bail of GHC100,000 has been granted to dancehall musician Charles Nii Amarh Mensah, better known as Shatta Wale, by the Circuit Court in Accra.
After five days in prison, Shatta Wale, who had pleaded not guilty to one count of publishing false news that provoked anxiety and terror in the public domain, made a second appearance.
Three others who appeared in court with him, Kojo Owusu Koranteng, Shatta’s personal assistant, Eric Vanetor, a graphic designer, and Iddrisu Yussif, a beautician, were charged with abetment of criminal publication of false news and were each sentenced to GHc100,000 with a surety who must be a public servant.
The court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Marvin Essandoh, has deferred the case till November 9, according to EIB Network’s Court Correspondent Murtala Inusah.
Meanwhile, rapper Medikal, also known as Samuel Adu Frimpong, has been granted bail in the amount of GHc100,000. He must also produce one surety who must be a government employee.
After spending five days in prison, the case has been rescheduled for November 9th.
When he first appeared in court last Friday, the rapper pleaded not guilty to one allegation of exhibiting rifles and ammunition.
After his counsel repeated the prior motion, the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Essandoh, a High Court judge with additional responsibilities as a circuit court judge, granted them bail.
Emmanuel Yeboah Ghana, the accused’s lawyer, stated that his client is well-known in Ghana and has lived there his entire life, and that he will not disrespect the court.
He claims that if he is given bail, he would have sureties in the form of his wife and mother.
While opposing the release of bail, the prosecution, lead by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey, stated that the court must weigh the greater society’s interests.
He claimed that there is a part of the case that isn’t clear.
A few facts
According to the brief facts of the case presented to the court by Chief Inspector Terkpetey, the prosecutor, the accused is a popular musician who, in September 2021, while in his car, displayed a Ruger 9mm pistol without any reasonable excuse and posted the video on his snap chart social media platform.
According to him, the footage of the weapon he flashed on snap chat became viral on March 26, 2021, and “Adomonline” published it.
According to him, on October 21, the accused was apprehended based on intelligence and handed over to the regional criminal investigations department for inquiry.
According to him, the accused admitted to the crime in his confession.
