Ghana Could Suspend DSTV’s Licence by August 7 if Subscription Prices Are Not Reduced – Sam George

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to revoke DSTV’s broadcasting license if the company, owned by MultiChoice, does not lower its subscription fees by August 7, 2025.

This directive comes after DSTV failed to adjust its prices despite the recent strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi. The Minister’s action follows a top-level meeting with DSTV officials on Friday, July 4, 2025, which aimed to push for a reduction in subscription charges. The meeting was prompted by widespread public complaints about DSTV’s pricing being unfair and unaffordable.

In a nine-page response, DSTV argued that the cedi had lost over 200% of its value in the past eight years, and the recent improvement in the currency’s strength is not stable enough to justify lowering prices.
