In a deadly accident on the Bunso stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern region, at least five people have been confirmed deceased.

Seven more people were taken to the hospital after suffering injuries.

The accident happened at 3:55 a.m. on Monday, April 4th, when the suspect driver, who has since died, was in charge of a Toyota Hiace mini bus with the registration number AK 1145-21, which was traveling from Kumasi to Accra with 13 people on board.

According to reports, the driver veered off his lane near Bunso after reaching a section of road after the Akyem Asiakwa junction and crashed the offside rear portion of a DAF lowbird articulated truck with registration number GT 3799-16 driven by suspect Driver Abonomovi Promise, 40, with drivers mate loaded with water pumping machines traveling from Tema to Kumasi with three escort vehicles, two in front and one behind.

The collision caused the Toyota minibus to fall onto the roadside, instantly killing five people, including the driver.

Seven male passengers on board the Toyota Hiace minibus were injured and brought to Hawa Memorial Savior hospital, where they were admitted.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Command’s Public Rations officer, informed Starr News that officers raced to the scene to rescue the victims and kept the dead remains at the Kibi government hospital mortuary for identification, preservation, and autopsy.

According to him, the accident vehicle was towed for testing.
